The City Council of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, through the Autonomous Organization for Festivals and Recreational Activities (OAFAR), will host the opening ceremony for Carnival 2025 this Friday, January 31, at Paseo Teniente Francisco Grandi Giraud – in front of Plaza España. There will be 1,063 seats available for the public, who can access the seats through an invitation. These invitations will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis at the entrance of the event, starting at 8:30 PM, until the venue reaches full capacity.

The mayor of the city, José Manuel Bermúdez, highlighted the importance of this event, stating, “In recent years, this event has been hugely popular among carnival enthusiasts, and during it, we will get to know all the candidates for queen, in an edition that has generated a lot of excitement.”

Javier Caraballero, the Councillor for Festivals, also expressed his thanks, saying, “I want to thank the candidates, designers, sponsors, and families for their involvement over the past few months, and I am confident that this year will set the bar very high.”

Once again, Wendy Fuentes will be in charge of hosting this first event of the Carnival of the Secrets of Africa, which will begin at 9:30 PM and last a little over an hour. This will be the official start of the edition, where the 34 candidates for Carnival Queen will appear in their three categories, revealing the order in which they will participate in their competitions.

To liven up the gala, the Queens of Carnival 2024, Afro-Canary artists, and the comparsas of Santa Cruz de Tenerife Carnival will perform. Additionally, the presenters of the various events throughout the edition will be announced. The show will begin with the presence of the 2024 queens and an overture that will immerse the audience from the very first minute in the Secrets of Africa, featuring performances such as one by Marieme Abdoulaye.

Under the direction of Jep Meléndez, the event will be broadcast live via Radio Televisión Canaria for the entire Canary Islands Archipelago.
