The Fairgrounds will host, from tomorrow, Monday 10, the contest of adult murgas of this year’s Carnival. The contest, which is divided into three phases and final, will be attended by a total of 23 formations.
The murgas responsible for acting in the first phase, which will start at 20:30 hours will be, in this order, Marchilongas, Desbocados, Chaladas, Burlonas, Diablos Locos, Mamelucos, Charlatanas and Diabólicas. The first phase, in addition, will begin with the performance of Castorcitos, group awarded the third prize for Interpretation in the Contest of Children’s Murgas. Then, each of the eight participating murgas will perform two songs on stage along with their presentation and farewell.
The Interpretation jury is made up of Andrés Fulgencio Estévez, musician, composer and former member of renowned Tenerife orchestras, as well as member of the General Society of Authors of Spain (SGAE); Manoly Triviño Alonso, teacher and director of children’s choirs in Santa Cruz de Tenerife; Rocío González Romero, music teacher and percussionist; Marlene Meneses Mendoza, journalist, announcer and presenter of carnival events; Ivo López García, announcer of CD Tenerife and presenter of sporting events; Sergio Branic, musician, composer, artist manager and member of the Latin Grammy’s Academy; Jéssika Rojano, humorist; and José Antonio González ‘El Flaco’, director of the murga Los Singuangos and the rondalla Peña del Lunes. Tomorrow, Monday, the last member of the jury will be announced.
Patricia Hodgson González, a graduate in Fine Arts and a teacher, with an extensive trajectory in these events, is the jury of the Presentation. She is accompanied by Claudia Rebeca Skog Linares, also a Fine Arts graduate, visual artist and finalist in the Carnival 2024 poster contest, and Laura Sánchez Vico, a professional costume designer in film and entertainment, with experience as a pattern maker and dressmaker.
The presentation of the three phases will be in charge of Daniel Álvarez and Emilia González. Televisión Canaria will broadcast live both the three phases and the final of the Concurso de Murgas del Carnaval 2025, scheduled for Friday 14 at 8:30 pm. The eight murgas with the best scores by the jury in the previous phases will compete in the Interpretation section.
